Time flies like wires

I am 10 this year and Mango is 9.

Mum says that everyday with wires (Us!) has been a blessing and bonus.

Me on the right, Mango on the left.

We think so too!

The Dog Rescue

There! Mum told us about this report on the news and we wanted to see for ourselves, the chivalrous dog who dragged another vehicle-hit dog off the busy highway in Chile.

We are in awe when we saw this:

You are a hero!

Will (finally) work for cake

Tee hee... finally! Party will work for cake! Now I am convinced that he is a true-blue wire...
For snacks, I give paws, spin, and attempt little dances... Party? Hmmm... he sits and works his sad/innocent/starved/wide-eyed looks. but that is about it.

Yes, he knows how to give ' paw', and mum knows that he knows too - she just can't convince stubborn Party that it is ok for boys to give paw. Or perhaps he might be too convinced that being the only (stoic) boy of the household, he has a reputation to uphold...

Until the bribe came in the plain-looking, butterless, fluffy form - it is like a traditional chinese, steamed version of a (plain) cupcake called 'steamed egg cake'.

Lo and behold! It was an inch shy of touching the floor but I saw the lifted paw! I dunno what it is about the plain-looking cake that finally awakens the wire in him but wheew... it is kinda hard to convince others that wires are smart if he acts blur all the time you know...

A few days back, we celebrated Party's paw-giving confirmation with a home-baked version of the egg cake. Yeah, mum figured that if it makes Party tick, she would want to ensure we do not run into any crisis situation whereby we 'need' (?) the cake and can't find it at the shops.

We always stay close as long as mum is in the kitchen. But I have to admit that it was Party who spotted it first...

See? It is a plain little cake!

But look how Party's eyes lit up...

His eyes would not leave the cake... he probably can be hypnotized just by staring at the cake!

And to test it further, mum baked something else today... And as much as Party likes any cake... his eyes just did not light up the way they do when he spots the cake of his life...

See, his eyes din light up like it was the egg cake!

Of cos I will not be left out. Like any proper wire, I am happy as long as there is cake.

Someone bring on the cakes!

Taking stock...

I resent daily medication & I still do! I detest needles & I still do! I cannot resist the urge to nip the acupuncture uncle & I am still trying!
.
.
.

But ... changes are happening & I can't help smiling...

Last week, I was officially taken off one of the two meds that I had been taking since last year!

Each of my past 2 seizures lasted 4 minutes in total. It has been quite a while since they were within 5 minutes! Whoo hoo!

There are a few stages in a seizure, and one of them is kinda like the 'actual seizure' whereby the seizure activity is most intense & critical (t was not present in the seizure that mum first witnessed when I was around 3, but over the years, it developed and its duration increased too). Prior to starting on medication, it was around 5 min, and prior to acupuncture, the timing of this was around 3 minutes.

However, I did not go into that last week!! 0 minutes!!!

===

Whoo hoo, join me in merry-making! Let's do the wire's merry little jig! Celebrate with me!! It has been one heck of a fight & the road ahead is uncertain, but at least there is alot to smile about for now.

^_^

I am 8!

I didn't intend to go into hiding...

But I had been deep in thought...

If I turn 8 this year, does it mean that I am going to be... a senior wft? (hmmm... 8 canine years = ... 56 human years?) Do I have to give up all my favourite toys and be a mature wire?

No... wait... I am not giving them up... I've gotta borrow Mango's toes.... Fever's toes... mum and Auntie Fee's toes too, gotta count again...

Hah! It is 56 alright! I have turned 8! It's time to go shopping for More TOYS!

Double-headed wire?

Are you seeing double after all the festive celebrations?

Nah! It is still us... two of us!

Dear all,

even though our backs are turned as we 'recuperate' from the recent festive break (yeah, including the fireworks) and are still gathering our tidings from 2007, we are nevertheless still lurking around pretty much.

Happy 2008 to everyone!

Changes

The past month has been full of changes. We would have blogged earlier, if not for the changes that were keeping us on our toes. (& dear Asta, we miss you loads too!)

It all began when I met a new dog-tar. I heard he is really a zoo vet but he is also trained in human & animal TCM as well as acupuncture. Recommended by Snowball & egged on by Fee's mum, our mum decided to consult with him about my fits. Mind ya, I thought that the medication is helping already; but mum is... well, ya all know what mums are like... she worries too much about my being on medication & its side effects.

The dog-tar seemed mild when I first met him; so I was surprised when he started inserting needles in my head, back, butt & legs & leaving them there! I could not really understand why mum brought me to see a dog-tar who conveniently forgot that he had left needles in a harmless wire like me... Thankfully, though I did not like needles being inserted, it did seem kinda relaxing... Since then, Mango & I have been whisked to the dog-tar at least once weekly, sometimes joined by Fee. Mum wanted to take pics to show all of you how it is like; but I had kept her busy with my scampering around in half-inserted needles and ocassional attempts at nipping the dog-tar.

My daily meals have been revamped to balance my system. O well, I am not fussy about food but since the change, we have to find out all over again what would be good for us. The only thing I refuse to yield would be to have my new TCM medication in bread since they come in 8 whopping capsules a day.

The dog-tar, while checking me during one of the sessions, saw that the pupil in my left eye did not constrict normally & suggested that it is an indication of some injury to my brain - it could be caused by a sickness when I was young or something, thus bringing forth the fits. Since I came here only at 2 & a 1/2 years old, Aunt Fee and mum could only imagine about whether there was a time in my life when I might have been sick and neglected. All these guessing made them real upset and so they kept trying to compensate for the bad part of my life.

On the upside, all these mean more car rides, more romping outings, new menus, extra treats, extra attention and more chances of getting away with mischief. Perhaps less fits, or the TCM cum acupuncture is helping to counter the tiring effects of the fits medication so I am also feeling bit more perrrky. It is great to be a less-worried wire, at last.

RunninG

O well, for the longest time, mum and Auntie Fee have been saying that I worry too much, for a wire. They still attribute it to the days before I was rescued and got here.

Anyway, we hit the park in the weekdays and found it all to ourselves! Auntie Fee is convinced that the sun is out and the time is right... It is time to loosen up and run...

Here we go... Let's warm up!

The race starts! Here we come; with Mango right at the front!
That is me followed closely by Fee. Woo hoo, the wind beneath our wings... hair!

We ran, and we ran, and we ran! At last, it is just too hard not to live for the moment!

Bringing our groceries home

Since Mango is on heat, I have to go stay with Fee for these few days till she cools down.

In the meantime, both Fee & I felt that we are old enough to go shopping (for dinner groceries). No more waiting behind closed doors: Meat... eggs... greens... we were all set for home. It was getting late and we thought it was better to take matters into our own paws if we wanted our dinner early. We would just have to bring our groceries back ourselves.

We huffed and we puffed.

And we found home!

Now, knowing that we can do this together as a proud father-and-daughter team, the world of opportunities has opened up to us. We can bring Giant, Carrefour, NTUC -- all the supermarkets home for dinner!

Hurray!

Captured having fun

I have been determined to remain stoic and solemn (... and sleepy...) in front of the camera. However, I was out-witted twice; once because of this pin-hole camera in Auntie Fee's lap-top; looking the happiest I ever have in front of the camera... ... and another time when I was too engrossed with the chew.
I just hope this does not compromise my image as mum and Mango's serious Protector/Guard. After all, I am the boy of the household!

Wiry Loves,
Party

P.S. Thanks Butchy and Snickers for always checking on how the meds coming along! The fits are getting further in between and milder. Guess it reduces the stress on me cos I am putting on weight!

Killing our toys all over again

One day, we found our toys missing from their hidding places. Then, mum showed us where they were:

Oh well, we did not expect that they would fancy a swim. Guess we will just have to kill them all over again when they are done!

Family

Mum's looking through pictures and reminiscing about family... It is infectious. Just makes us wanna share our favourite family portrait.

I lurff it. We the Rama family only reveals identical innermost desires once in a blue moon. Perhaps Butchy & Snickers' mummy's visors had gotten us united.

Mud Spa

Mud spas are definitely the best for hot hot days:

This certainly beats the 'dunkin wiry-donuts' that our parents made us + Fee go through!

Oscar

We were popping by our daughter and pals' blogs when we were shocked to learn that one of Fever's pals, Oscar the airedale, had gone over to the rainbow bridge.

We hope for all the love in the world to be with Oscar's mummy and daddy as we share their loss. And we believe that brave Oscar will run free and go on, and on.

To the Dog-tar

It had all been in the spirit of friendly boxing matches. Thus, it was with great dismay when mum came home yesterday to find a trickle of blood flowing from my eye. She had cleaned it up and found a tiny cut at my bottom eye-lid and a red-eye. She reckoned that I might have been boxed by Party during her absence.

My red eye persisted till today. As mum had recently met a little CKC pup whose eye ball had burst till to infection from being scratched, she got really worried and brought us to the vet this morning.

I did sustain a cut, but I can certainly still see. The Dog-tar's is a serious place I did not like to be at. Neither did Party like it. Once inside, we know that we must leave boxing out of the picture and unite in our attempt to get out.

I tried to get friendly with the nurse, gave mum the look of being betrayed for being handed over to the Dog-tar, but nevertheless I still ended up on the cold metal table. The Dog-tar even squeezed some gooey stuff into my eye. Yuck. When we got home, mum gave me a squirt of antibiotics and then, another squirt of anti-inflamatory meds. Yuck Yuck!

Everywhere we go, we will wanna fight

I wonder if this happens to all wiry folks out there, but this happens to us all the time.

Every time before we go for a walk, Mango tries to remind me about who is the boss. This happens if I walk ahead of her, get into or off the car before her, or if she has to share mum's bed with me. Ocassionally, I fight back, and win. But when the next walk is due, it happens again!

Oh well, if it makes Mango feels better. I know I can win her if I want to; I am up for a feisty challenge but at the end of the day, I think she still likes me. Mum assures me that when I am not around, she cries and mopes and feels insecure. I suppose I will just have to accept that this is how she has fun best!

Wiry paws up!

TGIAW

Dear folks,

What a busy night. Many times when we settled in cosy and comfy with mum, she had to rush out of the room. She did not allow us to go along, to our dismay, and so we kept having to wait by the door... Seems like she is having a bad tummy and keeps heading for the loo. Oh well, it is not exactly that I wanna put my muzzle into her private moment, but I do fancy joining her in the loo. After all, did she not watch me poo all the time?

I know how it feels like. Months ago, I was having the runs regularly. The vet said that it was some infection of the intestines. I hope it is nothing serious (all paws crossed!) ... In the end, mum and I discover that if she comes home and feeds me ON TIME, the runs simply go away!!! Mum said that is where she is different from me; she eats and she has the runs, I eat and the runs go away! Gosh, TGIAW (Thank God I'm A Wire)!

Tracking mum's movements had slowed my paws on the computer abit, but it did not stop me from finding an old clip from the lap-top. Looks like I was caught killing my toy:

Being a wire certainly has its advantages. I am glad that I am destined to eat and have fun in life.

Proud feisty wire,

Mango
